Host - Guest Details - VM Report

When assessing virtual machine licensing it is essential to know what O/S the physical host is using. However in the Host and Guest Details tab of the VM Report of the sample data for MAP there is a Windows O/S listed for just 1 machine in the Physical Server or Management Partition Operating System column (the rest are VMWare or blank) yet the relevant Windows operating systems for all the other physical hosts do show up in the Host Summary tab. Why does it not populate the said column in the Host and Guest details tab as well?

In addition I have recently assessed some other data where the Host Guest tab listed 8 machines with a Virtual FQDN but unknown in the physical server name and virtualisation technology columns. The inventory Results show that the virtual machine is on a VMWare Virtual Platform and running Windows Server 2003 Standard but without the data in the VM report I cannot ascertain details of the physical host server. What may have prevented map from finding the related physical server?

Quick question... where are the log files for the MAP toolkit "collect performance data" located?  I am having issues connecting with WMI and all I get is a "failed" message.  There has to be a log somewhere...

I have installed Maps 6.5. because  I would like to create a list of Microsoft  license id of all pc and server on my domain. I have done the scan inventory and I would like to start the Software Usage Tracker for report creation, but I don't find the link for start it.

Can anyone help me?

Any way to script MAP inventory process for minimal user intervention

Hello all,

We are looking for a way to pre-package the MAP for offices to run locally and send the DB file back to us for reporting. We want minimal user interaction (maybe scan type and credentials) when the script is run. It should start MAP, create the DB, and scan the local network with credentials provided, and then quit.

I was thinking of trying AutoIt since I cannot find anything on this topic anywhere and I love PowerShell, which is too bad we can't script it with that.

Any ideas?

RPC failure for hostnames with multiple DNS entries

I'm using MAP Toolkit 8.5 to scan by IP address range, for a narrow range of IPs used on a VPN.

The plan is to have mobile workers' devices attached to the VPN at a specific time and run an inventory.

When workstations connect to the VPN, they register their IP address provided by VPN, but simultaneously register their WiFi or mobile network IP address that they're using to connect to the Internet and on to the VPN.

This creates a problem during inventory and gives the error "Failed - RPC Server Unavailable", yet if I use wbemtest I can make a successful connection by the VPN IP address of the workstation.

If I manually remove the second DNS entry registered by the workstation, the inventory works.

So are there any tricks to make the MAP inventory "prefer" one particular subnet of IP addresses when it does a DNS Lookup for inventory, or any way to make this work without changing the VPN infrastructure? I don't really want to make wide-spread changes to the way ALL workstations register in DNS for the sake of a simple scan by MAP. I'd like to fix this at the MAP server end if at all possible.

Microsoft Assessment and Planning 8.5 does not display Mobile Devices in Exchange Server Usage Summary

Utilizing the MAP verion 8.5.5650.0; the Exchange infrastructure is detected and inventoried as expected with the exception of the Mobile Device information. Verified that the account being used can query the information in a native Powershell window. (ex. Get-ActiveSyncDevice -Mailbox *)

Any suggestions?

Is it possible to setup an assessment to plan for upgrades to Windows 7 and Office 2010 at the same time? Or is it a case of tweaking the minimum specs of the Windows 7 assessment to reflect the extra CPU and memory needed to run both?

MAP 8.5 - Running scans over DHCP clients gives wrong results

Hi all,

we've scanned our client networks with DHCP clients and static ones a few times by now within the same toolkit database.

Scanning was made with Windows Computers and IP Range settings enabled.

In the inventory results in the DHCP scope there are wrong clients listed:

client 1 has old IP x.x.x.100last time and now x.x.x.115

client 2 has old IP x.x.x.102 last time and now x.x.x.100

In the result, now client 1 ist listed with his old IP x.x.x.115, client 2 is not listed at all.

Is this a bug somehow ?
Does a new scan on an existing database not an update to machines / IP's ?

When performing a system scan using MAP, either by using a flat file containing computer names or by querying an OU in AD, does it send a broadcast to all systems to perform scan or is it conducted for one system at a time?

MAP toolkit 8.5 SharePoint 2013 Usage Tracking

Hi,

I has installed a MAP toolkit 8.5 to get the sharepoint 2013 usage tracking report.

I was configured the MAP to parse all the IIS logs and generate the report in excel file.

And on the excel file Client Access Details tabs, under the Username column, some of them are empty.

Anybody know why?

Collecting Performance Data while not logged in

I started the collection data yesterday, however when I logged back in, it appears it quit running the collection data.  Does a user need to be logged in running the collection the whole time?   The server never rebooted, I checked uptime and there it has been up the whole time.

 

Also this brings concerns if I run this for a month that there are reboots during windows updates.

Hi,

I've being asked by the Microsoft's partner to install MAP for my Windows Server 2003, however when I try to install MAP 8.5, it give me an error :

"The procedure entry point CompareStringOrdinal could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll."

Tell me how can I install this MAP for my server.

MAP (8 and 8.5) Database Schema

Hi,

Is there any chance to get hands on the MAPS database schema with a descrition of tables and views? I found quite a lot of useful information in the DB, but the existing reports are not always completely matching the customers needs.

I'm travelling europe at the moment to make MAP more pobular and you wouldn't believe what questions arise in those demo sessions...

Days Since Domain Account Update

What does this "Days Since Domain Account Update" tell me in the InventoryResults Report compared to "Days Since Last Activity" in the ActiveDevicesUsageTracker Report. I would like to filter out machines that have not logged on to Active Directory the last 90 days or has not been in contact with AD last 90 days.

It appears that reports are being generated as requested.  I see entries below in the log indicating so, but I search my entire local drive & can't find them.  How do I determine where these reports are ???  I have looked in the default location, but nothing there either.

Microsoft used to provide MAP deck under DDPS. I'm not able to find similar decks for both MAP and ACT tools.

Can anybody share where I can download?
