Assistance needed with MAP 8.5 running VMWare migration reports

$

I am attempting to use MAP 8.5 to provide an assessment of an existing VMWare environment to determine which virtual machines are ready for migration to a Hyper-V platform using the Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter (MVMC) application. I have gotten MAP to assess the VMWare virtual machines by connecting it into the vSphere server and I am getting data back on all of my machines.

The thing that is puzzling is that it states that none of my machines are currently ready to migrate using MVMC and the reason listed is that “Virtual machine is not accessible through WMI.”

Now I know that my machines are accessible through WMI, and as a test I deployed a brand new virtual machine in the VMWare environment and I can connect over WMI remotely without issue. I also ran a MAP Windows Inventory against the OU that contained this new computer and the Windows scan succeeded, with a WMI status of success listed in the InventoryResults report.

So my question is, is it possible that MAP is not reporting correct data back to me regarding the ability to connect into these VMWare virtual machines over WMI? I have tried running a Windows based inventory first, which utilizes WMI in the hopes that it would initialize things properly for the VMWare scan, and have also run a Windows and VMWare scan simultaneously, and in both of those tests I got no information about that VMWare environment at all, literally no information, so this did not seem to help.

Can you let me know if it is possible I am missing a step somewhere, or if the VMWare scan might not be pulling back accurate data? I find it weird that the VMWare scan uses the VMWare webservice to connect into the vSpher server, but I get recommendations concerning WMI, since the scan did not use WMI in the first place, so how can it know that the machine is not accessible through WMI?

Microsoft Assessment and Planning Tool - SQL Server Users Count

I'm trying to run Usage Tracking in MAP. I've correctly configured the SQL Server for audit logging to the Windows Security Log and can see these events in the Security Event Log. I've exported the Security event log for the database server and copied it to a local directory where I've set as the MAP directory to parse log files. I'm getting 0 users and 0 devices in my SQL Server usage counts, and for all I can tell, the log files are being parsed successfully.

In version 7 there was a report called HardwareAndSoftwareSummary Report that was generated when doing the SQL search. I cannot find this report being generated in MAP 8. Is it there and renamed or is it no longer being produced?

Here is the problem. I have a SharePoint 2013 enterprise search center. When I m searching with any keyword say "test" and select an item say " Anouncements" from refinement panel, the result should display all the" *Test* " result which are under "Anouncements". Say all the result items displayed should be underhttp://xyz.com/Anouncements/*test*.

But I am not getting the result as i wanted. Please let me know the steps to configure this. Do i need to add any manged/crawled property for this. Or any other step which can help me solving this.

Hello,

At the end of collecting inventory data, the SQL Server database reports only show 11 servers. MAP says 189 servers have been discovered and inventoried, but only 11 servers show up in the SQL Server Databases Detailed reports.  Can you identify what I am missing?  I have MAP Toolkit 8.5

thanks.

Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit will not install on my Windows 7 Sp1 PC.

Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit will not install on my Windows 7 Sp1 PC.

I'm getting the following error:

"The Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0.2.full profile is required to install the Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit.  For more information on how to install the required Microsoft .NET Framework, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=111000"

I have tried re-installing all the .NET Framework versions.  My current version is 4.0.30319.  I've even installed all the version 4.0.2 updates.  The only thing I haven't tried is installing the actual .NET Framework Full Profile 4.0.2 because I cannot find it anywhere.  All my windows updates are up to date.  I've tried installing it on another Windows 7 SP1 machine (laptop) and the same error appears .  I've gone to the link supplied in the error and went through all the installation steps one by one but still getting this error.  It runs fine on one of our Windows 8 machines.

Any assistance offered is much appreciated.

MAP Toolkit WMI access denied

I am using the MAP toolkit to create an inventory of a couple of laptops. I am testing it with 2 laptops for the time being by running the MAP toolkit from one laptop. Data is gathered for this laptop but I keep getting a WMI Access denied error for the 2nd laptop.

I have enabled this: Windows Firewall: Allow inbound Remote Desktop exceptionsbut I am still getting no access. According to this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1644.microsoft-assessment-and-planning-toolkit-inventory-status-messages.aspx the error is related to the credentials. The credentials I have entered are the laptops' names and passwords. Are these the credentials I am meant to enter?

Why parse log files?

I am using MAPT 8.5. Usage Tracking for SQL Server indicates that Collect inventory data is complete, that 0 (zero) total devices and 0 (zero) total users, 293 SQL Server instances and 0 (zero) Windows log files parsed.

I have attempted to make this useful but I go nowhere in the documentation. The display indicates potential for information. I need help to understand how to get it. I see information about how to parse logs but I have not seen why I would want to do so.

I am using the MAP toolkit 8.5 and getting the following error when using a few of the collectors.  Most work fine with a domain admin, but some don't..

"The powershell collector requires at least one All Computers credential."

Can anyone shed some light on what credential I need?  Are we talking Active Directory All Workstations?  Computers?  I don't see anything called All Computers.

Thanks in advance.

Can MAP toolkit read the config of the asp.net applications hosted in IIS ....?

We are successfully using MAP to assess SQL server installations in customer location who is looking for upgrade for 2000 to 2012. But how to use MAP to find out the asp.net applications that uses these databases. Basically we would  like map to read the config of the asp.net applications hosted in IIS and record the connection strings… is this possible? Do you know anyone that can help here?

How do I get data from MAP 8.5?

$

I've run the inventory and am told that I only have a 40% inventory success but the reports are all empty even though it claims 18 machines inventoried. Which 18 machines is beyond me. Which failed is also not apparent anywhere. I tested with WBEMTEST and everything seems to be working...I cannot find any errors out side of "insufficient data".

Why are the reports blank? Where do I see the data? This tool feels useless. Anyone seen anything like this?

Hi All,

We will start SAM project at our customer. They are using thin clients with terminal services in a large measure.

Are there any practicular advice for MAP Toolkit in this environment?

How to determine thin clients and desktop/notebook users? (should i check the user profiles folder on the terminal server?)

Thank you!

Using MAP tool result for performance in CPT tool(consolidation planning)

Hi and thank you for MAP and CPT tool first:)

When I generate the performance report using MAP tool to use it with CPT tool I get the following error:

Lacks "ProcessorUtilization" worksheet in the imported workbook.

Which in fact is correct and the MAP produced performance report has just following worksheet:

Summary,How it works,PlacementMetricSummary,CollectionStatistics.

I had 100%successfull sampling with MAP so I assume the data is seating somewhere in MAP database but not being exported into Performance Excel sheet which I would appreciate your help to solve this.

Thanks

Ali

I am unable to generate a server virtualisation proposal in MAP8. Once I have completed the server consolidation wizard all I have to view is a server virtualisation report in excel. No word proposal. Am I missing a trick here. In previous version at this stage i would have the next task after the server consolidation wizard to generate the proposal but I am unable to do this

I have installed MAP toolkit v8.5 on a virtual Windows Server 2008 Enterprise running SQL Server 2008. Setup went all fine but when I try to run tutorial described in MAP_Demo_Exercises assessment fails with SQL exception below (found in log).

Using MAP for licensing true-ups

$

Hi There,

I run a number of licensing true ups for customers to ensure they are in compliance. MAP is an integral component of this discovery to determine what Microsoft software is deployed in their environment. I currently then produce reports and spend a considerable amount of time dissecting the data to produce the correct number of licenses required (e.g. is the OS a physical or virtual, how may VM hosts are used for DC licensing, sql server licensing per core, no. cores etc....).

Is there (or will there) be a simpler way to gather this data? It would be great to have a "Licensing compliance" section which analysed the results and the output was simply, you need x licenses for server 2012 enterprise, standard, x for office professional, x for sql server 2012 standard, etc.. I can do it all manually but it would be great if I didn't have to.

Remove Stale AD Objects From Inventory Results On MAP

$

I have had a look around on the web to try and find a relative post to this question but have been unsuccesful thus far...

I have run an inventory check against our local domain which has returned results I previously expected. This has allowed me to delete some computers that aren't in use from our AD. I assumed that running in inventory again would remove the previously discovered computer names, as I thought it would do another check against AD. I'm now assuming that it will keep attempting to search for them until it has found their details?

Could anyone tell me if I am able to manually remove these results from MAP? Or would I have to delete the database I have created and start fresh?

Thank you!

Trying to run Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit Server Consolidation on Virtual Machine running in VMware Player

I'm preparing for Hyper-V and I tried running MAP Server Consolidation on my environment. I am getting a number of inventory errors but there is one machine that isn't inventorying correctly. It is a Server 2003 VM running in VMware Player. This was an emergency migration as the physical machine began to fail.

Anyway, the WMI status on the Inventory Results is "Success". It detects the Operating System, Service pack and Domain. All the other stats though are either blank or come out with Insufficient Data. Ran wbemtest and successfully connected to the machine, but when I try to pull a quick processor stat (select * from win32_Processor) I get the error:

Number: 0x80070553
Facility: Win32
Description: Cannot start a new logon session with an ID that is already in use.

I found this hotfix
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2283089
but would like to avoid restarting that machine if possible.

Is there any other reason this might not be inventorying right? Does MAP even support inventorying a VMware Player Guest?

perfmetricsresult doesn't have any worksheet like processorutilization but just placementsummary

I have ran MAP tool and for performance I just get "Howitworks","PlacementMetricsSummary"and "ColelctionStatistics" worksheets and I don't get all other worksheets including processorutlization which is needed to run CPT Excel Tool for consolidation planning
