How to scan users logging on less than once a week?

Hi,

A question I haven't been able to find the answer to:

I have laptop users not logging on the network more than once a week/every other week - what's the best way to capture these PC's?

- Do I do a "Refresh Inventory Assessment"? (The text tells me I should only do this when the scan hasn't been completed normally) 
- Do I have to create a new DB and redo the whole scan?
- Other method(s)?

My understanding is that MAP does a snapshot when the inventory is run and doesn't scan an object twice, so if MAP finds the computer object in the AD that isn't online at the scan - will it attempt to scan it if I would do a refresh inventory assessment when it is online?

MAP 8.0 Video Assessment Functionality

I have a MAP assessment set up with the following values:

CPU: 2.0ghz

Memory: 2048MB

Disk: 40GB

In one particular instance, I have a system with 512MB of RAM which is identified on the "Recommended After Updates" sheet as requires a RAM upgrade, and also shows that the Video adapter requires upgrading.

If I change the parameters of the scan to 512MB, the system no longer shows that it requires a Video Adapter upgrade.

I assume this is because the system doesn't have enough RAM to run Aero, therefore the capabilities of the Video Adapter are moot. Can anyone confirm this behavior is by design?

Report on x86 or x64 Capability - Feature Request?

Has anyone else noticed that MAP 8.0 doesn't report on whether a system is *capable* of running x86 or x64 Windows? Doesn't that seem strange, and something that it should report on?

The way I have always done this is querying the v_GS_Processor table in SCCM (which is based on the SMS_Processor WMI class), however I am at a client now without SCCM and am really thinking that MAP *should* be able to report on whether a scanned system can run x86 or x64 Windows.

I don't think there is any Windows native WMI class which reports the actual capability of the Processor, as the AddressWidth and DataWidth portions of Win32_Processor are dependent on the host OS (so running Windows XP 32bit on a 64bit capable hardware results in 32bit being returned).

Does anyone else think this should be in MAP natively?

How to add multiple local administrators in the wizard?

Hi

On several occasions I ran the tool  map for Windows platform, and I needed to add in the local administrator accounts in the wizard  all with the same name but not possible.

Example:

If I want to add the user "administrator" with password "123456" and then I want to add the user "administrator" with password "abcdefg" is not possible as the assistant informs me that the user already exists.

Many organizations in more than 250 computers have local administrators windows with the same name but different password.

Currently what I do is do a scan at a time for each password the same local administrator.

Is there any way to enter local administrators in the wizard with the same name and different password?

MAP 6.5 incorrect database count on clusters

Hi,

I apologize if this has been previouly discussed. I recently ran a MAP inventory scan using MAP 6.5 and was surprised to see our database count much higher than expected, almost as much as three times higher. On further investigation I noticed that each node of a cluster would report the same number of databases (i.e. the total for the cluster) on each node. For example if there was a three node cluster with say two hundred databases on each node, each node reports six hundred (the total for the cluster), I am assuming that this is because technically each instance is installed on each node. Therefore if you sum the "Number of SQL Server User databases" column in the excel report on the SQL Server Summary worksheet in the SQL server database details spread sheet, the grand total would be 1800 databases instead of 600. This may have been addressed in version 8.0, I have not had a chance to try that as yet. Is this a known issue, or am I doing it wrong?

Desktop performance metrics collection

Hi,

We installed MAP8 with LocalDB option.

we are planing to do desktop virtualization.

since it's developer machine they do have SQL express edition. while running scenario inventory about all desktop is smooth but collection of performance metrics fails (perfmon fails).

kindly guide me for the same. Thanks.

Dear,
I'm trying to install the MAP 8.0 toolkit here in the company in a etsacao windows 7 32bit with utlimas updates. Already downloaded and installed all patches recommended qa MS but without success. At the end of the installation error message occurs with error = 1603.
Ad I have on my network.
I opted for that installs the 12 ms sql express, sql server because it does not have the Companyâ.

I am unable to generate a server virtualisation proposal in MAP8. Once I have completed the server consolidation wizard all I have to view is a server virtualisation report in excel. No word proposal. Am I missing a trick here. In previous version at this stage i would have the next task after the server consolidation wizard to generate the proposal but I am unable to do this

Hi

I have a web application that will be installed on an IIS7 web server, hosted on windows 2008 R2 server, The server also contains SQL Server 2008, I need to know how to estimate the hardware configurations (RAM, cpu, Space , bandwidth ..) if you know that the application will be accessed by 50 users  in the same time and they will insert about 20,000 records per day.

I would like to get Lync Users statistics using map toolkit 8.0. I have created a DB and ran the report -- but, I got the stat. for the period of 90days. 

Is there any way to Increase Reporting Period from 90 days to 180 Days in MAP 8.0?

Installing MAP 8 with SQL 2012 express.

Ok so with what i think, please correct me if im wrong

When i install map 8 , it will automatically install Server 2012 Express?

But however, after my installation of MAP 8 i cant find the Sever 2012 on my windows 7 machine.

do i need any procedure to see this?

secondly, how can i connect an existing sql database to MAP 8.

MAP reports showing empty sheets

Once the MAP toolkit finished scanning the inventory, the report generated is only showing empty sheets (with only headers).

SQL Server Version value results

Hello,

I am using Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit version 8.0.5427.0 to inventory our SQL Servers.  I noticed that the SQL Server Version values in the SqlServerAssessment Excel spreadsheet frequently do not match the actual version number on the server itself.  For example, I have version 11.0.3339.0 on a server, but the value for that server in the spreadsheet is 11.1.3000.0.

It does not seem like this is an Excel formatting issue because I see the same values in the the SqlServer_Assessment.SqlIntances table in the MAP database.

Are there any settings that I am missing to get the SQL Server version values to match?

unattended installation of MAP toolkit 8

How do I perform an unattended installation of MAP toolkit 8? I've searched everywhere but cannot find an answer (or even the question being asked). I have a hard time believing that any software can reach a version 8 without having an option for unattended installation.

Good day, I'm able to ping my servers fine and the credentials were fine but when I try to scan it, it says 0% success. The report returned no data at all. What seems to be the problem here? Thanks in advance!

Usage Scenarios

Hi,

I am Managed Service Provider and would like to use the MAP Toolkit to inventory and assess a potential client's IT environment before I do a proposal.  Is one of the scenarios you are supporting the initial assessment of a potential client?  If so how do you see the process playing out?  Should I install the MAP Toolkit on a laptop and take it to the client site?  If so I am supposed to run through the Wizard while onsite?

MAP Report more systems are showning Failed - Access Denied

Hello,

I used MAP Tool 8.0 and discovered systems in my network. I got 95% of my clients are "Failed - Access Denied".

Windows Firewall off, Antivirus Kaspersky disabled, ports are opened.

How can I fix this Access Denied issue and get the inventory of all my clients?

Host - Guest Details - VM Report

When assessing virtual machine licensing it is essential to know what O/S the physical host is using. However in the Host and Guest Details tab of the VM Report of the sample data for MAP there is a Windows O/S listed for just 1 machine in the Physical Server or Management Partition Operating System column (the rest are VMWare or blank) yet the relevant Windows operating systems for all the other physical hosts do show up in the Host Summary tab. Why does it not populate the said column in the Host and Guest details tab as well?

In addition I have recently assessed some other data where the Host Guest tab listed 8 machines with a Virtual FQDN but unknown in the physical server name and virtualisation technology columns. The inventory Results show that the virtual machine is on a VMWare Virtual Platform and running Windows Server 2003 Standard but without the data in the VM report I cannot ascertain details of the physical host server. What may have prevented map from finding the related physical server?
