Permissions Issue with localDB

I've got 7.0 installed and working, and I've successfully imported databases from another machine. Exporting fails, though: I get permissions failures in writing to the root directory, like so:

"A failure occurred while exporting the database. Refer to the log file [which I cannot locate] for more details.
Cannot open backup device 'c:\MAP_randomCharacters\MAPdb.bak'
Operating system error 5(Access is denied.).
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

I'm no expert in SQL, but I can't see why it would be trying to write temp files there; both %TEMP% and Windows\Temp exist, and from what I've read SQL Express 2012 instance is supposed to run in the user context so I'd think it would have whatever permissions my account has.

In any case, regardless of the cause, can anyone suggest a solution or workaround? Thanks,
