We are in the process of trying to count up our total SQL server licenses deployed/in use in our environment both physical and virtual. From what I have researched and seen, the reports generated by this toolkit is exactly what we are looking for but I have a couple of questions.
!) How does MAP detect all SQL servers in the environment - is it a client that scans the network or are they manually entered
2) Installation - Is this toolkit required to be installed on every server we are trying to track? Or is it a desktop client that anyone who has access to it, can run and simply pull all servers deployed
Really the big thing is in understanding how MAP pulls it's data, how it's installed, permissions required etc.
